There are many good ways to treat waste water depending on what is in the water that makes it a waste. For example if you have intrained oil you lower the pH, skim the oil off the surface, then adjust the pH for discharge. On the other hand if there are suspended metals you need to raise the pH, dropping out the metals, then lower the pH for discharge. There are as many flavors of treatment as there are contaminants. Which one is best depends on what you have and the budget that is available. I recently got rid of two water trewatment systems not because they didn't work but because they were not cost effective. It was cheaper to send the water offsite in totes for treatment then to run the system. I hope this helps some, if you need more information fell free to e-mail me at Mike J.
