As a follow-up to Mark's comment, the CCME guidelines on biomedical waste were out of print the last time I checked and no longer available from the CCME unless they have since been reprinted.
You may also wish to check out the Laboratory Biosafety Guidelines 3rd Edition (Draft), Health Canada, although these will not specifically address your issues.
CAN/CSA-Z317.10-01 Handling of Waste Materials in Health Care Facilities and Veterinary Health Care Facilities, Canadian Standards Association, March 2001, may also provide you some guidance although once again, not intended for the issues you are attempting to address.
Waste is primarily a provincial issue and as such, will be covered by provincial regulations.
If you really want an answer, I suggest you contact agencies who perform the work you outlined above and ask them what standards, guides, etc they must follow.
